After a year that saw many parts of the country hit by scorching heat, devastating wildfires, severe storms and record flooding, a new Environment California Research & Policy Center report documents how global warming could lead to certain extreme weather events, becoming even more common or more severe in the future.

Energy Efficient Buildings Would Reduce Global Warming Pollution

Santa Monica, CA - California families could save over $450 every year on their electricity bills by 2030 if the government invests in the energy efficiency of our buildings today, according to a new report by Environment California.  Saving energy in our buildings would also help California’s fight against global warming, reducing global warming pollution from buildings by 35% – the equivalent of taking 12.6 million cars off the road.

STATE SETTLES SUIT WITH BRAZIALAN BLOWOUT

This week California’s Attorney General settled a suit with the makers of “Brazilian Blowout” on the grounds that it had mislabeled it’s product as formaldehyde free, when in fact this was not the case. Formaldehyde is a potential carcinogen with dangerous impacts to the eyes and lungs.

New Report: Fresno is a Leading Solar City

Fresno ranks 5th in the state in terms of the number of solar installations on residential, commercial and government buildings, with just over 2,100 projects installed. The number of solar roof installations in Fresno has doubled in the past two years alone.

New Report: Solar Power is Booming in Sacramento

Environment California Research & Policy Center released a new report today comparing the number of rooftop solar power projects installed in cities throughout the state. The report identifies the hubs of the state’s thriving solar economy (detailed in the table below) and shows that Sacramento ranks 7th in the state in terms of the total amount of solar electricity generated, measured in capacity, with 16 megawatts. Sacramento ranks 10th in the state in terms of the number of solar installations on residential, commercial and government buildings, with just over 1,000 projects installed. Most impressive, Sacramento has experienced the greatest rate of solar growth of all major cities, tripling the total amount of solar power installed in the past two years alone.
